Answer:

Sorry I'm different than the others, but I think a soft amber (light golden yellow) paint on the walls and a deep green sofa would look awesomely dramatic! Use dark wood accents and pillows that pick up on the brown and gold. This is a deep, rich brown that needs jeweled colors; I think beige and tan would deaden the room. Pretend that the brown carpet is a dark hardwood floor, and you'll see what I mean. Another suggestion would be to paint the walls a soft powder blue and use punches of pea green for a retro look. Sofa would be a print with those colors and dark brown running through them. Pillows would be solid colors to match.
It looks medium brown in the picture so you could use a tan, beige, dark brown, any pattern on a sofa that has this color somewhere in it. This is a fairly neutral color so you have a wide variety to choose from.
a bronze/copper colored fabric with a satiny metalic sheen would look fantastic in a sofa with that dark brown carpet. you could also play it more safely neutral and go with any color from ecru to nutmeg. another more dramatic option would be a bold brick red color. because the carpet is a solid color, it would probably look best if the sofa had a striped pattern with more than one color. can you paint the walls? a mid tan color would really look great.
I would Go with really Pretty Beige and some nice cream pillows and you should even through in some nice Gray bluish Accents. With a nice Throw Blanket and some Nice Pictures. Or you could do a nice cream colored couch or even a off white , like egg shell color , don't do white that wont look good.
ANY color sofa will do with beige--it goes with everything. If you are a slob, go with brown or black. Have a peek at a few furniture magazines, and you'll get some good ideas for suitable window treatments to go with your new sofa. Keep in mind, you can also put an accent rug atop your beige carpet, for interest. Your accent colors can be pretty much whatever you'd like--try to get complementary colors in the same spectrum.
