I see at least two law suits here. The first is against the employer for firing him the second is against the first Dr. who gave substandard care. Get a good lawyer.
If he didn't file a formal worker's comp complaint with his employer, he needs to do that.
We were required to run through fire in basic training while in the Air Force. I did not get hurt but did burn some of my hair and eyebrows. It all depends on how long you have to stay in it. You don't want your clothes to catch on fire, so do it quickly. It is better then burning to death. Cover your eyes and face with your forearm and don't inhale. I burnt my eyebrows because a guardrail prevented me from going forward. I had to look for an escape route. Jumping through it should be okay, just prepare to drop and roll if you catch on fire. Good luck escaping.
