Question:

what common item, when added to aluminum, releases hydrogen and heat?

I am designing a model rocket and was unsure of what it was because I was going to use it as a fuel other wise where can i find hydrocloric acid

Answer:

Hydrochloric acid is also sold as muratic acidYou can buy it relatively pure at most hard ware stores for lowering the pH of swimming poolsHow do you plan on collecting this gas? With a balloon? If so you need to neutralize the gas by making a double reactor systemIn the first bottle you have your aluminum and HCl, a tube leading out of this bottle and into a bottle with some baking soda and waterThe gas bubbles up through the baking soda solution to neutralize the HClThen into your balloonIf you don’t neutralize the gas, the acid will attack the rubber in your balloonBalloon goes pop before the gas does no funSodium hydroxide also reacts with Aluminum to form hydrogenRed Devil still makes a drain cleaner that is pure sodium hydroxideThen you have to neutralize that gas with vinegarSame system different solutionsHave fun.
