Question:

What do I need to start a Cable Company?

I'd like to compete with Comcast. Anyone know where I can get some info on starting a cable company?

Answer:

Wire. Lots and lots of wire. And the connector thingies that go on the end.
A licence from the communication ministry in your government, good capital, great technology and great personnel in your team
Most cable areas are held through contractual agreement with a local governing body. This allows them to use public right of way for access. Many cable companies utilize telephone poles for delivering their signal. This requires a contractual agreement with the telephone companies. Cable companies need to offer programming which involves negotiating with various media outlets. Comcast has a variety of services. To see what is involved on a small scale, go to Yahoo Finance and look up Charter Cable. You will find how many mega millions it would take to gain control over even a puny little company. If you are made at Comcast - and I think most of us would fall into that catagory periodically, write to the local governing authorities and explain your concerns. Be sure to cc: Comcast.
