Question:

What do you think of putting the the gas industry under gov. control like cable?

and then contracting out the services like cablefor instance, my electric bill it's contracted out by my state government and I've seen only small increases in my bill, while energy prices have been going crazy elsewhereand while my cable may be more expensive than I think it should be it hasn't tripled in the past 3 yearsI'm not so much saying it would be a good idea as much as throwing the idea out there

Answer:

Hate the idea. Okay. What the hell right does the government have to take over a private industry. How about you own a restaurant and the government comes and says they are going to run it from now on. They do this kind of crap in Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea. No thanks, not here. None of our business what they are trying to earn as long as they are doing it legally and they are. The government cannot keep social security in the black, but they can run an entire industry profitably? Flawed logic at best. Exxon paid $30 billion in taxes in 2007. That is as more than the bottom 50% of tax payers pay combined. They have about a 41% tax rate. Is that too low?
What has happened to the price of cable? Mine has gone way up. No it didn't triple, but I can always dump cable. I need to fill my tank. The producing countries don't want to pump more. They like a tight market. I don't know how government control of the domestic industry would help that.
The only bad thing about that is that the government would limit you on how much fuel you can use which wouldn't be good either, but it's insane that the fuel companys made over $280 billion a year. We were looking up and any country that supports us being in Iraq has high fuel prices and whoever doesnt stand behind us has lower fuel costs. I think that the government should put a cap on how much the fuel companys can make in a year. What I think is a bunch of crap is that the govenment gives the fuel companys a tax break for making so much money. I also believe that they are hurting the industry also because if they raise the fuel prices especially diesel then our food prices go up since the expense of getting the product there goes up. Anything with plastic goes up also since they use diesel in the process of making plastic. With jet fuel prices going up its going to send prices for plane tickets sky high and not many people will want to fly. Without people travel that means people start losing their jobs.
Your electric bill is contracted out by your state government? Your cable is under the control of the State? What country do you live inor is this some California garbage?
It would be a great idea. Nationalize oil production is the way to go. Private oil fields should be illegal all around the world. Oil is a resource that should be exploited for the benefit of all, not just a few. Chavez did it successfully, now is our turn to step up and change things around, no more predatory capitalism!
