Answer:

Pipes are measure to keep things from over flowing, keeping costs down and keeping records. They are measure is length in diameter. The length usually has set requirements like nothing over 300' (feet) for sewer before you need a MH (manhole). The reason for this is because sewer is gravity feed (meaning it all has to flow down on it's own) at long distances the chances of getting the pipes to be a positive flow (as in not get backed up). So they get connected to the MH's then either turn or go straight from there. The diameter is measured by how many fixtures are at the other end. So if there's only a few houses that feeds it, it only needs a 4 dia pipe. If it's a gym next to a spa next to a 30 story condo building, the size will go up to something bigger like a 12 or 15.
For the better part of the last 50 years, the mark 2 eyeball has been the decisive factor in air to air combat. Once the pilot locks on you, he has the advantage. He can use a heat seeking missile, or he can paint you with his lazer which a non-emmiting missile will follow to target. Or, use his cannon, if so equipped. Even radar or electronic homing missiles are used at extreme range, with a EC aircraft actually locking on from a distance and using SAT nav. to direct the missile, fired from a another, possibly stealth aircraft. So, The concept of locked on, no longer means that your locked on to his heat.in fact some aircraft are designed to give off a very low heat signature for that very reason. So, Stealth can mean in other areas other than radar cross-section. And, the counter measures for heat seekers are inexpensive, but there are few effective against a skilled pilot who has his eyes locked on you.
There are a number of ways to achieve a lock-on, and since Richard C knows everything about EW systems, I digress.
