honestly u prolly shouldnt get the car if he says it needs a valve job, cause he prolly doesnt know waht he is talking about, and if it needs a valve job that means it needs new valves so it may not be worth it valves let air in and out of your cylinder, the intake valve opens to let air in, the piston rises creating pressure, the fuel injectors add gasoline to the air, the spark plug ignites to explode the gas/air mixture, the exhaust valve opens to let the ignited gas/air mixture out. that is the basic works of that part of the motor a valve job is having the sides of a valve ground to allow for better air flow and to seat better against your head
if you dont want to spend a lot on repairs,buy an american made car. parts for forien made cars are high high high. ithey cost more to work on and maintain.un less the car in aone condition. not worth it.
i own a repair shop and what they mean when they say this, is that the head is taken off if it and the valves re-ground,and re-seated,and new seals put on them what this does it re-stores the compression on the upper end of the engine back to where it should be,as long as the piston rings aren't worn out in it,this usually works well,in some cases though it will make an engine start using oil,because it puts pressure on the upper end of the engine,and if it has any weak rings in it,this will make it use a little oil so be careful if you buy this one,keep in mind that a vale job doesn't always help one,it might run better,but can use oil later on ,this happens occasionally ,especially on higher mileage vehicles,and the cost of it would be around 600 bucks ,so make sure this car is worth it before you buy it,good luck with it hope this helps.
