Question:

What does the very last bracket on a brace do?

If the last bracket on your brace breaks does this effect treatment? I was watching a YouTube video that said they were just hollow tubes with nothing inside to hold the wire. Surely if the bracket does not hold the wire it shouldn't slow down treatment. I was just wondering this considering I have just broken my bracket :p

Answer:

All teeth that have brackets on them are aligned to the shape of the orthodontic wire so if the last bracket becomes detached from the tooth, then that tooth will not be properly aligned with the rest of the arch and will no longer be moved. The molar tubes you speak of is for something else (like internal headgears or facebows) and are not always used. The archwire does not go through the tube and If you look carefully, you will see a slot that the wire actually fits through.
It shouldn't affect treatment but it can be uncomfortable so is best fixed soon.
