Question:

What does tumble dry low mean?

also if I put a jacket in that says dont tumble dry for 5 minutes in the dryer just to dry it up abit and take it out and hang it up would it ruin the jacket since I put it in the dryer on tumble dry low. also I just put it in the dryer once. so could that ruin my jacket or do I have to keep putting it in the dryer to ruin it. also what can happen if I put the jacket in numerous times in the dryer on tumble dry?? I only want people who know about cloths, washing and drying to answer this question please and thank you. and my jacket is 100% cotton and the sleeve lining is 100% polyester if that helps. thanks alot

Answer:

It means to use the lowest heat setting on the dryer. Putting it in the dryer for 5 minutes when it says not to might damage the jacket. There are different reasons not to dry a clothing item. Sometimes it is the material it is made of and sometimes it is because things on it might melt or glue is used which could melt, too. If you dried it on a low heat setting, then there isn't as much chance for damage as there would be if you didn't. Since your jacket has a 100% polyester lining, then that could be damaged through melting if exposed to high heat or to prolonged heat. The jacket itself could shrink if exposed to prolonged heat or high heat since it is made of 100% cotton.
It means to use a low setting so it doesn't dry on the hot air setting. If I were you, I would dry it on low maybe 10 minutes and then hang it to finish drying. I always hang my jackets to dry. I never even dry my jean jackets:) If your jacket says DO NOT dry. Don't dry it. The heat may shrink it or melt the polyester in it.
It means, it tumbles slowly!
