Question:

what happen if direct current is supplied to ac motor?also...?

what happen if direct current is supplied to ac motor?also what happen if alternating current is supplied to dc motor? In which case motor makes to and fro motion(vibratory)?

Answer:

I expect heat and smoke in both cases.
There are many types of AC motors, but in general, nothing would happen except you'd draw a lot of current if you applied DC. Applying AC to a DC motor would cause vibration.
I know some AC motors won't like DC. There is not enough resistance in these motors to have a safe current in the wire, therefore, the motor would burn. Need the Back EMF to help with that. With AC being pumped into DC motors? If the voltage is the same...you may still get some vibration since the net voltage across the terminals would be zero. You may even burn it since you are plugging teh motor 60 time second. Currents are induced in the armature, and cannot change the direction of current fast enough due to inductance. when the voltage changes direction, you may have double the current present in the armature. It's a little hard to explain.
i think motor will burn out
