Question:

Cargo Container Terminal?

What happens after a crane unloads all of the containers on a ship, like where do they go? Do all major railway companies have yards near major portsOr do they all go on trucksIf they do go all on trucks won't the area around the port need a large amount of highways, since each ship carries 10's of thousands of containers and many ship enter the port each day?

Answer:

There are holding yards at the port where containers are first stacked for temporary storage before being dispatched (in some cases, to await clearance by customs)Then, depending on their destination, will be loaded on a chassis for local delivery, or onto railcars for cross country transport.
