Question:

what happens if you microwave plastic?

I have heard you shouldn't eat food after you microwave it in plastic. Why?

Answer:

plastic IS actually microwave safe, its metals and stuff that aren't. but a lot of people say that microwaving your food in plastic can cause cancer : probably because plastic melting/getting absorbed into food? I dont really know if this is true, but i guess better safe than sorry, especially if you have the cheap tubs that leave a lot of loose plastic residue. ive also heard its because of some toxins in the plastic? i know people who only ue a certain kinda of plastic water bottle, or other than that glass, since some plastics can leave debris and tiny bitty plastic bits that you can ingest. i dont know if its really bad for you, but still you dont want to be eating plastic anyway. its pretty much the same thing as dont drink water form a water bottle left in a hot car anyways i cant say i know how bad it is, but to be safe, you can use other things, like i found these great glass bowls at walmart. theyre small and they fit in the refrigerator and come in all differnt sizes. also if i have leftovers i take the food out of the tub into the bowls/plates and then microwave that hope i helped (:
some plastics will melt and gum up the food others like plastic film will off gas and add chemicals to the food . Plastics come in many types , note the many types for recycling , not adviseable to use any in microwave that will touch the food. If using to cover food so as not to splash etc. use the dome typo of cover that does not touch the food and use glass dishes or ones marked microwave safe. Glass that heats up too hot to handle are a sign to avoid using again in microwave , they may be contaminating from glaze.and may actually explode into many pieces it used too often
Some plastics will release a potentially toxic gas, that the food MIGHT absorb. However, plastics labeled microwave safe will not do this. Also, some cheaper plastics might melt or go soft, but I have not witnessed this myself.
Most aren't designed to cook in and can release toxins. Some can be used the once.
I don't see anything wrong with it . Plastic is one form of containers that are microwaveable .
