Question:

What happens if you put diesel in a generator that is unleaded?

I accidentally filled my generator with diesel instead of unleaded. It already had a half a tank of unleaded so it has about half a tank of diesel. To make the full tank. Can anybody help me out please.

Answer:

That won't hurt anything, the generator just won't run well because there is too much diesel for it to burn right. Take the fuel line off of the carburetor and drain it all into a can and put new gas in, it will be just fine. You can take the stuff you drained out and put it in your car so you don't waste it, you'll never know it was there if it's just a gallon or two. It won't hurt anything. But do not do this in reverse, by putting any quantity of gas in a diesel bad news.
Probably will not run. Diesel fuel will not burn unless under high compression and heat. That is why diesel engines use glow plugs instead of spark plugs and run a much higher compression ratio. Drain the fuel tank and refill with proper fuel.
Siphon the fuel out, and discard, or save it for starting fires! j/k! Then fill it with fresh gas, and it should be fine. It may run a little rough at first, but once all the diesel has cleared out from the carb, it should run normally again.
you need to drain tank, and flush it out, if you do get it to run like it is it will smoke, foul spark plug and the diesel fuel will destroy the gaskets on carb, and also contaminate the oil, remove tank and flush it out before you try to start it
drain the tank and discard the mixed fuel refill with unleaded and it should be fine
