Question:

What happens when a cv axle breaks?

I hear a clicking when I turn and my cvboot is gone so I am sure its my cv axel but how big of a deal is it if it alredy clicks and what happens if it breaks?

Answer:

It will break anytime now. When it breaks then your car will not go anywhere. It is a drive shaft to transfer power to the wheel. You need to replace it as soon as possible.
Yes your cv joint is ruined if it already clicks if it ends up breaking your car will no longer move. This is a relatively cheap repair the axle is under $100 for most cars and should cost less than $200 to replace
It does sound like the CV joint is gone. With the boot gone, the dirt on the road gets into the bearings and will wear them out. When that happens and the joint begins to go, you will experience a very funny felling--the car will only one axle rotating and a noise will be coming from where the CV joint was because the axle will be turning inside your hub making you aware it is no longer a part of your car! Though you still may be able to steer the car, you will do more damage if you do. The best thing to do is to get the CV joint changed and not worry about it any more.
