What is a anti-lock brake system?

Exactly what the name says. When you slam on the brakes, they don't lock up completely, so you don't lose control of the vehicle.
It stops your tires from locking up when you have to brake really hard. It pumps your brakes really fast allowing you to stop much faster than if you were to lock up your tires and skid to a stop.
the abs is a 4 wheel braking system that prevents wheels from locking up while allowing ,the driver to have steering control of vehicle and stop in the shortest distance possible. wheels have sensors that send signals to the abs module which it tell it, if a brake caliper has locked up or if a wheel is spinning faster than the other and so the brake will need to grab longer to maintain the brakes working evenly ; therefore keeping the car in control . hope this quick explanation clears your question. later!
