what is a magnetic anomaly? How are magnetic anomalies measured at sea?

Answer:

You mean apart from the genocide and stealing ALL their land?
let me point in point form for u :) * sexually expolited the women and emasculated the men * drowned n killed their babes * tortured them with hound dogs cuz they knew they were afraid of them *cut off their hands *burn then alive and burned their leaders infront them :- w/o they leaders there was no stability among them *tied them to horses and draged them
A magnetic anomaly is where the Earth's magnetic flux lines deviate from normal. A large piece of ferrous material (iron, steel) will cause the flux lines to bend abound and through the object, thereby producing an anomaly. The US Navy uses this concept on its P-3 Orion aircraft to find submarines under the ocean's surface. A submarine, which is a big piece of ferrous material, will cause the Earth's magnetic lines of flux to bend. A detector mounted on the aft end (tail end) of the aircraft, and actually sticks out from the back of the plane making it look like a stinger of sorts, will detect these changes in the magnetic field. Without getting into too much detail (most of which I have long forgotten) the detector uses two helium filled chambers to detect the changes. BTW a magnetic anomaly can be detected from objects in the air as well. An aircraft will cause a magnetic anomaly which can be detected by the same equipment as is used to find a submarine. Although, it is not used to find aircraft as it is pretty easy to see the aircraft once it is close enough to detect the anomaly.just some interesting observations. Besides the navy, I would imagine ships and other aircraft detect magnetic anomalies using similar technology.
