What is a muff? (pipe terms)?

Hey, im following some instructions that need pipe fittings. And its asking for 11cm muffs. From the picture it looks kind of like a socket, but not exactly the same :SI have no idea what these are. can anyone help?thanks

Answer:

Maybe i can Help you as i have a Jetta and a STi. The STi is by far the best snow car you can find as it has 3 Limited Slip Diff's which means all 4 tires spin when you get stuck. Most trucks and SUV's will only spin 3 at best and most AWD cars are stuck spining one in front and one it back. I used to Live in Tahoe and never got stuck even in 3ft of unplowed snow. . Performance wise the STi is a different league then any VW. Be ware that things like a brake job on the STi can run you $1800. If you can live with the stiff ride, wind noise, and standing out like a sore thumb then get the STi. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything. The VW Gti will be an easier car to drive and still extremely fun. It's front wheel drive which will make it good in the winter. The Jetta with studded snow tires never had an issue for me in the mountains. The VW will get 26-30mpg while the Sti is good for about 17-20mpg (all freeway 26mpg). If you drive on rough roads and commute alot the VW will be the better car. Both cars are reliable and you really can't go wrong just think about how your going to use the car and how much you can afford to spend to maintain them. Also check out Insurance prices as the STi is one of the most expensive cars to insure.
It depends on whether the smoke detector is wired to alert an agency or the Fire Department. So, if it is the garden variety smoke detector that you buy at Walmart, no, unless the neighbors hear it and call the fire department. Also, if you have an alarm system such as ADT or Brinks, they notify the proper agency as well, as part of their monitoring fees each month. If it is wired to an agency or fire department, they will respond as soon as they get the alarm. Some senior and handicapped assisted living facilities have the capability of reporting it to the fire department or rescue squad, it is one of the perks of living in such a facility, there is simply a button to push and help is on the way.
