I am beginning BMX bike racing and I don't know what kind of gear I should buy.

for night time riding I purchased reflective tape at the fabric store. it ran me $2 a yard. A roll of velcro was $4 for 3 yards. I cut a length of polo long enough to go around each leg. attached the velcro with a few stitches of needle and thread. fabric glue attached the reflective tape. two bands for each leg. From the sporting goods dept of K mart I got the Iron Man bike flasher for $10. It has a Red strobe light that attaches to the neck of the back of your shirt or to your belt. And can be SEEN a long way off. It also had Yellow reflective stickers that now adorn a old trail saddle pad, and riding helmet. and a leg wrap. I glow and light up the night when I ride after dark. That red light has warded off more cars then I car to imagine and for $20 it was cheeper for the whole set I made then buying one online
