Question:

What is the capacity of memory card reader on my laptop?

I have a gateway MX6448 laptop. It has a 6 in 1 memory card reader. The card reader is a Texas Instruments PCI-8412 card controller. I cannot find on the internet if it reads SDHC or only SD cards. I just bought a 8gb micro sd and an adapter that came with it. It will not read it. The reader will read a 512mb microsd with the adapter that came with the 8gb micro card. My guess is that my memory card reader cannot read anything about a 2gb or 4gb card? Anybody else?

Answer:

it only reads the types of cards that are compatible. look at the box or manual of your laptop. it will tell you what cards fit in. not all SD card readers are the same.
I don't really know. I think it depends on your Operating System. I think that your laptop has Windows Vista, and if that was the case, there was a Windows Update recently that improved SDHC reading on computers. Do you have all your Windows Updates? I have Vista on my Desktop computer. I use a 4gb SD card. In order to use it, though, I have to use the USB adapter that came with it, because my card reader won't recognize SDHC, even though Vista will. I'll bet you that if you go to Office Depot and purchase an SD USB adapter, you will be able to get your pics on your laptop. An SD USB adapter will only cost you about $10. You will plug it into a USB port instead of the card reader, and thus bypassing your card reader which evidently doesn't recognize SDHC. Of course, for the micro SD card to fit into the USB adapter, you will need to put it into the larger SD adapter that you mentioned came with it. This should work just fine. I use an SD USB adapter for my SDHC card and it works fine. It should for you to. Hope this helps.
