Question:

what is the difference between a lap top LCD screen and a stand alone lcd monitor?

99% of all stand alone LCD monitors cause me to get motion sick. This does not happen using 99% of laptop screens. I have had one that did it though. We bought a LED 19 TV yesterday to try as monitor and that still had me motion sick once we set it up as a monitor. As a TV it was fine. CRT also never caused this but our CRT is broken now and I have to find something we all can live with here. There has to be a different way they are light or the amount of lighting used. I have no idea. I googled this problem and it seems I'm not the only person that LCD monitors make sea sick. My kids are starting to hate me since now we have to go back to best buy and try another LCD monitor. Matte finish doesn't seem to help, Thanks

Answer:

That is interesting. I've heard of one other person who said they got sick with a headache when viewing LCD monitors. You might try changing the refresh rate in the display properties from 60Hz to 70Hz (I think those are the only options) to see if you are affected somehow by that (if there is a higher refresh rate available you can try it). On older CRT monitors it was well known as a problem under certain lighting conditions and a higher refresh rate fixed the problem, but it is not supposed to be a problem with LCD's. Use only the refresh rates supported by the LCD (check the User's reference manual) to avoid other issues. There really isn't any difference I know of between laptop LCD's vs regular monitor LCD's. Best of luck.
extra moderen lcd monitors are available in even in 15- and 17-inch sizes. till these days, 17-inch touch monitors used basically CRT video demonstrate instruments. As lcd monitors are flat, the viewing section is likewise larger in assessment to a CRT demonstrate screen. it quite is, a 17-inch CRT demonstrate screen would have a viewing part of basically approximately sixteen inches the place an lcd demonstrate screen would have the completed 17 inches. on the draw back, lcd touch monitors do no longer demonstrate all hues and likewise can’t demonstrate dissimilar resolutions as properly as CRT reflects. inspite of those barriers, lcd purchasers are favoring touch monitors. actually, clever telephones are the main ordinarily used lcd touch monitors.
There shouldn't be any difference between the two. It might be that the laptop LCDs you're looking at are high quality. This would be an interesting experiment: buy a high-end LCD monitor. Something that's at least 120Hz with a 2ms refresh rate and see if that helps.
It probably has something to do with the refresh rate or method. I've seen ten monitors on display in a row and some show this rolling distortion. Those were the cheaper models but I could not determinefrom the posted specs what was really the difference. I'm assuming those are also the ones that affect you. Someone at a large store like Best Buy or Staples may know why.
