Obviously this one is the best ps3 game. I like this game. I don't think any of em work on the new ps3's. They work on the older ones though. And that's the first Metal Gear Solid for PSONE
No PS2 games work on slim (new) PS3's, but some PS2 games work on the older consoles (60gb, 80gb etc). But all of the PS1 games will work on PS3 and MGS4 is one of the best games of all time, you won't be disappointed ;). Tom
Metal Gear first came for a japanese console called MSX2, then after its success a nintendo version was made, but there are some difference and the most important is that there is no metal gear mecha in it. Solid Snake meets Otacon in Metal Gear Solid not Metal Gear. In Metal Gear, Solid Snake goes to South Africa and at the end fights Big Boss. They meet again in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. This two games are included on the 2nd disc of Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance for PS2. There are 2 games for PSP, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops MGS: Peace Walker. You can play MGS on PS3 only on some PS3 models (some of the 2nd generation) you can play MGS2 MGS3.
Snake meets Otocon and Rex in Metal Gear Solid for PS2. If you have one of the old PS3's it is backwards compatible and can play most playstation 2 games. Otherwise your are stuck with the PS3 stuff. MGS4 sons of anarchy is the only actual ps3 game to my knowlege.
