What is the difference between rail welding and field welding of railway rails?

Answer:

In my impression, the thermit welding is mostly used for track erection, and then the welded rails (several hundred meters long or more kilometers long track) are welded together at the site.
Field welding, usually in the workshop, the first 12.5 meters of track welding, welding into hundreds of meters, or even kilometers long track welding.
