This is the first resignation in Obama's administration that I totally support! It is obvious from all the testimony that the woman at the helm was totally incompetentThe guards wouldn't release the dogs in case they attacked the agents?! Then why do the police do it all the time? Turn off the door alarm because it's annoying people?! Allow unvetted security guards to work the White House, carrying weapons?! The whole thing is ridiculous!
Yes - Obama and every other US president should have better security than thisWho knows what kind of chaos would break out if somebody assassinated Obama? Who knows what kind of National Security State crackdown on every kind of political dissent - right, left and center - might happen if Obama or any other POTUS were assassinated these days? One of the huge strengths of the USA, whatever our other faults, is our elected form of government and our regular elections, even if the political process is grossly distorted on every point in the political spectrum by corporate money and big campaign donorsIf someone gets through White House security and kills or seriously wounds a sitting president, that huge source of legitimacy for our system is badly erodedThe Secret Service has a duty to prevent that from happening- democratic socialist / support Obama as lesser evil compared to the GOPbut I wouldn't have wanted anyone to assassinate George Bush, either.
That was a serious breach.and that steps have been made to correct itAn investigation is going on to find out exactly what happenedSecurity Guards are not allowed to kill someone unless they show some form of weapon or are wearing a bullet proof vest (they are trained to look for those things under the clothes)Not only was this a huge breech.but the felon that worked for a Security contractor was on the elevator with a gun with a PresidentThe Secret Service didn't even bother to check him outWe won't see it .but some major changes will take placeAnd, hopefully, the morale of the Secret Service will improveThere was a former Secret Service member on TV (major cable news network) that stated they are afraid to complain about the things they see that are wrong because, if they do, they could be demoted or firedSo, they were all keeping quietYou cannot allow that type attitude.people should be free to speak without the fear of losing their jobThat will also change as well (hopefully).
