If I were to place a crumpled-up piece of aluminum wrap right next to an electronic, such as a TV or computer or something, would it negatively affect the device in any way?It may seem odd to ask, but I just recently found out about plastic emitting oil when heated and paper/cardboard being high in acid-content, so now I'm paranoid about putting ANY kind of material next to anything I don't want damaged. It seems like everything is a hazard to everything else, what with electromagnetic fields, sound vibrations, power fluctuations, etc.So can aluminum or any other kind of metal pose a threat to electronics for any reason? Or is it one material that won't totally screw up your entire system like everything else seems to potentially be able to?
Placing aluminum near almost any electrical device should have no effect. Placing aluminum ON an electrical device (not on the plastic housing etc.) may cause problems (short circuits.) Really, you shouldn't worry. Many electronic devices are housed in aluminum enclosures (Everything from DVD players to computers are usually housed in aluminum structures.)
