The easiest way tot tell quartz and fluorite apart is based on their hardness'. Quartz has a hardness of 7, whereas Fluorite has a hardness of 4-5. Also, fluorite has cleavage, whereas quartz has no cleavage, but just breaks into conchoidal fracture.
