Question:

what is the most popular material for heat exchanger?

what is the most popular material for heat exchanger?

Answer:

I think the first answer did not address the primary topic of materials used for a heat exchanger. A heat exchanger is a device that transfers heat energy from a warmer medium to a cooler medium. This can be used to recuperate heat that would be lost otherwise. The material must be thermoconductive. For this copper and aluminum would be good. But if the heat exchanger has to work in a very hot environment then other metals such as stainless steel are better.
Thermocouple (consists of two different metals, which end up conducting electricity when kept at different temperatures i.e. heat exchange)
For shell and tube heat exchanger : tube copper / admiralty brass / ss304 / c.s/Ti shell c.s / brass lined c.s / alloy steel For Plate heat exchanger : plates ss 304 casing c.s Selection of m.o.c is guided by sevice fluid temperature/ corrsiveness /compatibilty.
stainless steel is the first choice because u can clean it with acid or basic material .
