Question:

What is the plastics number on plastic "glasses" sold in most stores?

Is plastic glassware dangerous?

Answer:

Plastic glasses are usually PP 5. Depending on how you look at it, everything can be dangerous. It depends on what you mean. It's certainly safer to give a child a plastic glass than a real one.
I did a search on the net for plastic glassware. There are two types of plastics used for this application: polycarbonate and acrylic. The advantage is they are transparent. They fall into the number 7 (others) according to the plastic recycling numbering developed by The Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI). Be aware, most communities only recycle number 1 and 2 plastics. The rest are requested to be disposed with regular trash.
