The trike I'm building has some similarity to the vehicles on this site:
eye wash stations around, safety gloves, vacuums in worst case scenarios in case you spill some REALLY bad chemicals. i've never really been TOO careful other than just being mindful of my equipment, wearing goggles and washing my hands afterwards it also depends on the acids/bases you're using, what solutions they make or have potential to make, how powerful of acids bases/concentrations. not enough information to give a really good answer.
