Question:

What isparticle steel?

I know next to nothing about metal manufacturing, apart from some common knowledge thing about restaurant kitchen countertops and knives and forks and stuff, And i saw an episode on 'How It's Made' where they rolled a sheet of aluminum foil out of a big block of aluminum.I have seen types of sheet metal that looked allot like a wood product called particle board, which is really cheapIts just large chips of wood saturated in animal glue and pressed together, giving it a sort of ugly mishmash - camouflage rec room wall -type design. What is this sheet metal called? How is it made? It appears to be in cheaper applications such as ductwork, and the ugly looking shelves under the (otherwise stainless steel) tables we have in our resturaunt kitchenIt's not very attractive, quite ugly, and doesn't appear to have much resistance to rust, although it seems to be durable enough for day-to-day wear. What is it, and how is it made? Is it made in the same way as rough particle-board, but with metal?

Answer:

If you had said an eagle (or any other raptor), it would make senseWhats the largest thing you've ever seen a pigeon carry? It weighs about 2 lbs - can't even lift itself gracefully - nor are they coordinated like the geeseThe eagle can catch a fish or rabbit (6 - 8 lbs) and rise back up w/o stopping.
Dude your crazy, but its all goodI'm gonna say 10 per every 100lbs.
I think what you are talking about is galvanized sheet steelIt is just sheet steel which has been dipped in molten zincWhen the zinc hardens, it cyrstallizes into the pattern you are seeing that makes it look sort of like it is compressed chips of metal stuck togetherThe zinc coating is supposed to make it rust resistant, but it doesn't work very well if it is exposed to acidic conditions.
