Question:

What kind of bird sounds like a car alarm and chirps at night and how can I get rid of it?!?

Almost every night, I hear a chirping noise that keeps me up and the chirping goes on for hours at a time. I saw a white bird flying around making this noise and watched it fly into the neighbor‘s palm tree. I think it was a barn owl but am not completely sure. How can I get rid of this thing?

Answer:

Likely a Mocking Bird, they imitate other sounds!

I agree that it is probably a mockingbird (a barn owl has a soft hoot). They are well known for mimicking other birds and sounds like car alarms, and are one of the few that sing through the night. If you live in the U.S. this bird is protected by the migratory bird act. Lethal methods are illegal, and harassment techniques used on other birds aren't effective. There isn't much you can do except wait. He is trying to establish a territory and attract a mate, hopefully he is successful because he will quiet down for the most part once nesting starts. Try contacting your local division of wildlife and ask if they have any other suggestions. Edit: Where do you live? We could help narrow it down if you give a general location.
