Question:

What kind of card reader do I need?

I just purchased a Nikon CoolPix digital camera. I have a Dell Optiplex GX 160 computer. It is older, but has had little use. I have Windows 2000 Professional, so apparently according to my camera's instructions I need a card reader. I cannot use the USB cable that came with the camera. I have a 1GB Lexar SD card. Does anybody have any suggestions? What is a USB 2.0 port? I am pretty clueless when dealing with computers.

Answer:

Windows 2000 and XP are very similar under the hood. I would suggest trying to install your camera's software, it might work. If you continue to have problems, you should visit your local computer store or electronics store and get a USB card reader. These devices are inexpensive ($20-30), and plug into one of your USB ports. Just make sure to get a device that can read multiple types of cards, at least SD, MMC, MS, CF - and XD would be nice too. That way you will be able to read most types of cards, and the multi-card readers typically cost no more than a single-card reader.
You will need an SD Card Reader (The have usb adapters that will fit into your computer). The USB Port is on the back of the computer and is a small rectangle used for things like a mouse, printer or GPS device.
