Question:

What kind of living room set or sofa could I fit in narrow doorway?

Okay any ideas on what type of sofa I could possibly buy to fit into my new home. My doorway is narrow. It measure approx. 28 across and 67 for height.

Answer:

You have some good answers...just remember you can always take off the molding and frame to squeeze out another 4 to 5 inches of width. Could make a big difference.
I would take my tape measure with me and check out IKEA. They have some lovely furniture and I'm sure that you will find something that will fit.
Most folks don't realize it, but almost all manufacturers today the backs of all regular furniture quickly pop up and off, leaving a very small base, and separate backs to fit through doorways. So, I would go by any furniture store, armed with this knowledge, and ask them to show you a regular sized sofa that the backs can be removed from. My last purchase from La-z-boy and my newest leather sofa both came this way. the base (where you sit) easily fits through a 28 doorway.
Look into apartment/condo furniture, as the sofas are usually lower. Measure first prior to buying. If a love seat will not even fit through the doorways when standing on end, then you may have to settle for a couple chairs that are part of the sofa set you like instead. My only other suggestion would be to look to see if there are sofa manufacturers in your area. They will be in the phone book or the furniture stores may be able to tell you. Have a custom sofa made to fit the house. This would be your best way to combine style and fit, but one that may come with a cost.
I saw a show on tv where they had furniture made for apartment living that all came in pieces so it was easy to transport.... I haven't found that site, but here are some...the one I am thinking of even had storage built in beneath seats of chairs and in ottomans. I had to cut off the legs of my sofa once, and we put in big two way screws...on into the sofa, and drilled a hole so we could screw the legs back on....the sofa still lasted another 10 years.
