Question:

what kind of water pump do I need to water my lawn? I would like to use water from my lake. 100 ft. downhill.?

I would like to use water from the lake to water my lawn. My lawn is about 100 feet up hill from lake. Just want something I can attach a garden hose to. what type of pump and horsepower do I need.

Answer:

Get an Aeromotor!!! You''re going to need 2 filters. One out in the pond you're pulling from and 1 filter prior to the pump. AlgeaQueen makes a good filter for out in the water.
Not less than 1.0 horse power pump is needed to lift water from 100 ft down. But, if you want some more power, you need not get more than 1.5 H.P. in any case.
With 100ft of rise your probably going to want a deep well pump. Which means 3/4 to 1hp pump. You'll need a 230V electrical supply on a 20 amp breaker possibly 115V on a 30 amp breaker. This means buried electrical. You could try a cheapo pump and just return it if it dosn't work. Try to figure out the real rise from the lake to lawn. If it's a shear drop of 100 ft, sounds like a deep well pump or similiar.
Hey Guy, Get a Hayward Pump.. A solid Bronz.. Also, and this is important.. you can only pump water 14 feet in elavation.. You are going to have to put your pump down by the water and push the water up hill.. Do not cheat yourself... Get at least a 1 1/2 to 2 HP.. Anyting less will cost you more money. It will always be working under a strain. Make sure that the wires going to the pump are big enough to do the job.. You will need a 220 line. Sears also has some good pumps. Give me a shout at ... dvz_33 at Yahoo if I can help you any more. I used to have a pool and pump service.
