What material can block a magnets force?

I have a large collection of a magnet brand called supermags and am looking for any material that can redirect a magnets field. I have already tried mumetal and it only stuck onto the magnets. Any advice?

Answer:

I do not think any material blocks magnetic force. I know electric current can effect the force, but I don;t think that is what you mean.
Materials that 'block' magnetic fields (or provide magnetic shielding) are themselves magnetic and work by redirecting the magnetic field. Magnetic materials do this by providing a preferred pathway for the field to follow due to their permeability. These materials 'support' the formation of magnetic fields by aligning their own magnetism with the field's (an alignment of their magnetic 'domains'). Where this happens the external field follows the magnetic material instead of going through the air so the field is diverted rather than blocked. Permeability is the measure of the ability of a material to support the formation of a magnetic field within itself. Ferromagnetic materials have the largest permeability so magnets places inside an box made from iron sheet are likely to have their fields diverted within the box wall and they may not be detectable from outside the box.
