Question:

What measures do you take to avoid absorbing aluminum?

Are you concerned about consuming or absorbing the neurotoxin aluminum? What measures do you take to avoid them?Sources:saltbaking powderAs well as in some: tooth fillingsdeodorantantacidsSome studies indicate that patients with Alzheimer's have traces of aluminum in their brains.

Answer:

I buy bottles rather than cans. I never refridgerate/store anything in cans. I went to the dentist (yikes) and had my fillings changed from old metal mix to new white?, whatever. I have heard that all autopsies on alzheimer's patients had high amounts of aluminum.
U can curb it but not halt it entirely. Be careful of things (like tea) packed in aluminium foil. Dish sinks are normally made of aluminium. Clothes are washed in aluminium tubs.Bath tubs are cleaned with products containing aluminium. Green tea or oolong tea apparently gulps up traces of aluminium in the blood stream. Alzheimers and aluminium seem connected.
The increased aluminum doesn't seem to be a consistent finding, and if there is a real association, it's only hypothetical that it might be causal, and if the association is causal, it's also only a hypothesis that decreasing absorption would make a difference. That's a long, long way from recommending any change in your life. Associations crop up in medicine on a routine basis and rarely turn out to be meaningful.
Yes I am. I avoid drinking sodas and juices from cans - Aluminum dissolves due to the acidic content of the soda or juice I don't use aluminum foil to wrap food - there will be some migration of aluminum into the food. I don't use aluminum cooking ware - use stainless steel instead. Don't use Aluminum antacids.
It is true that (some) studies do indicate that trace amounts of aluminum may be found in brain tissues, but medicine and science both question the amount/contribution to the Alzheimer's condition. Other toxic metals have been found in trace amounts as well. Mercury is a much more common and nasty neurotoxin with which I would concern myself. One must not leave out lead and arsenic either. All of these contaminents may cause problems with nerves in the brain as well as other areas. The pure question was directed at aluminum. Measures that I recommend to my family include: do not use aluminum cooking utensils. Aluminum pots and pans oxidize and the resultant oxidation is included as an ingredient in cooked foods. One may follow a salt-free diet, though some salt is found in most foods that we eat - you do not need to add salt to food. Some find this a bit bland, but the food tastes quite well without over-salting of dishes. If baking powder is a concern, limit consumption of products using baking powder. Request that dentist not use products containing aluminum (and mercury) in dental work. Choose deodorants and anti-prespirants of the type that do not contain aluminum. The same goes for antacids; ask a pharmacist or doctor for an alternate recommendation. I apologize for the verbal overload. Be pro-active about taking care of your health. Alternatives abound, check the internet (alternative health products, foods, cooking, etc.).
