Question:

What motorcycle tire should i use?

Hi. I just got an 85 honda magna 700. I was wondering on what tires would be well suited for it? i will be doing alot of riding. work and back and just some cruising around. I want a tire thjat is good in wet weather also. any ideas let me know i was looking at the Metzeler Marathon 880 but im not sure if they would be any good. ive heard good on bad on all tires so any thought would help. Thanks

Answer:

A lot of folks swear by Metzeler, but I have found them to be over-priced and over-rated. I tried Marathons on a couple of my BMW's and averaged 3500 miles on a rear, not bad for a knobby tire, but abysmal for a long-distance touring tire. Dunlop and Avon have given me the best combination of performance and durability. The K491 Touring Elite has been the best single road bike tire for me over the years. I hear that Dunlop no longer makes this tire, so I would try whatever they have replaced it with.
Good question. It could be that your pads and shoes are worn. But if not, you could have air in your brake line from when it went low. Did it go low enough to get below where the brake line connects to the master cylinder? If this is the case, you would have to bleed the air out of the brake line.
Given that it is a 700, I assume you live in the States. On that point, i would recommend Bridgestone S11 Spitfires. They are good value for the money and have excellent traction and wear characteristics. I have personal used plenty of sets on all my old Japanese bikes, and have no complaints.
I've got metzler me880 marathons on my '02 magna. They've got 17000 miles on them and they look like they'll go another 5k before I change them. They cost a little more but will last alot longer. The ride and handling are good. It really depends on your budget but if you want the best for your bike then get the metzlers.
the shaking when u break is coming from warped rotors you need to replace them or get them resurfaced. your brake pads got so bad that now everytime you break it shakes because your grinding your rotors, replace ur rotors and brake pads
