Question:

What processor, Phenom or Bulldozer?

What processor should I choose between AMD Bulldozer FX 6100 and AMD Phenom II X6 Black 1090T? Why?

Answer:

Bulldozer sometimes doesn't perform as well as a Phenom II X6, main problem is that Bulldozer is not a true six core CPU, only three cores have a FPU. I'm not sure about Bulldozer, but in other CPUs MMX and SSE use FPU registers. There are benchmarks all over the web, for example, the Bulldozer did incredibly well in a Photoshop plugin benchmark, but not so well in others.
Bulldozer, the 8-core beats any other processor easily. Not only that, AM3+ boards can support later releases of the Bulldozer models, meaning eventually Athlon II and Phenoms will become like Dual Cores are now. Bulldozer are more future proof than the Phenom. besides 8-core, 3.8ghz, I would choose that over anything any day, as programs will soon be written for more cores in the future.
Bulldozer for a more powerful performer it's all in the name :)
Get the Phenom. The Bulldozer is using a new processor architecture from AMD, and it doesn't handle current software very well. Even with eight cores, it's usually slower than the best Phenom IIs, let alone Intel i5 and i7 processors. More than likely, the scheduler in Windows 8 will make Bulldozer perform better, but by that time, you'll be ready to upgrade again. Your best bet is the processor that gets the job done right now, which is the 1090T. By the time you're ready for another upgrade, you'll have Windows 8 and AMD will have an improved version of Bulldozer, called Piledriver, out.
Actually, right now it's kind of hard to recommend any Bulldozer chip. They have not performed well against the i-5/i7 line (which they were supposed to do), they aren't as powerful as AMD led us to believe they would be, they run real hot, they uses a lot of power, and really aren't a big step (or any step) from the Phenom II chips. The Phenom II x6 1090T has proved itself to be worthy and fast CPU, even for gaming. I would go with it.
