My sister in law lived in an apartment complex and the attics of some of the apartments were combined together and the residents of the apartment next to hersthey had drilled a hole in the ceiling where they had been watching her in the bath roomI am not trying to scare you but it is somthing you need to check outespecially it happening at same time.
You mentioned the temperature being highPerhaps it is the wood squeaking as the temperature changes during the day? I'm unsure of the scratching, and chewing sounds, though That's all I could come up with:/
