Question:

What's a good way to put a fire out if you don't have a fire extinguisher?

We've had a couple small fires over the years, like the heater overheating (irony) and got them out without a fire extinguisher though I don't remember how we did now, and I'm worried about what will happen if a big one breaks out for some reason. I'm definitely buying a fire extinguisher the next chance I get but I want to know some ways to get out a fire if you don't have an extinguisher.

Answer:

It has less to do with lack of faith and more to do with safety standards. A building that is used as a gathering place has to meet certain safety standards. 1. It needs to have sufficient ventilation. 2. It needs to have enough doors that people can evacuate in an emergancy. 3. It has to have Fire extinguishers. 4. There has to be at least a basic first aid kit on the premises. 5. It needs a lightning rod. 6. The building needs to be structurally sound. Without these standards, any place of public meeting will be forcibly closed by law. Churches are not exempt.
You can also try contacting Code Enforcement, Fair Housing or a Landlord/Tenant Attorney (look up Eviction Attorneys) for advice.
The only thing I could think of is that the batteries were low. I had the same thing and put in brand new batteries and it stopped. Hope this helps
The low battery warning circuit is bad. Replace the smoke detector. Less than $10 at most places.
