Question:

What's the difference between North Face backpack fabrics? 420D nylon, 1680D ballistics, sabre 6, sabre 12?

On the website, they specify the materials for the backpacks but do not tell the significance for each oneI even looked over the internet for for descriptions for 420D nylon, 1680D ballistics, sabre 6, and sabre 12I can only assume that the higher end materials are more water proof or resistance but who knowsAny help?

Answer:

Follow the directions on the package as to water-to-rice ratio; that varies greatly according to the type of riceI normally make Jasmine rice that is a one-to-one ratio, but sometimes I make wild rice that is four-to-one.
DIfferent types of rice require different amounts of waterFor your first time try half a cup more water than the amount of rice you have just to be on the safe sideIf you use 3 cups of rice, use three and a half cups of water.

To cook rice on the stove top the ratio is: 1 part rice to 2 parts water for a rice cooker: 1 cup rice and 1 2/3 cup water
The D refers to the word denier which is a unit of fineness for rayon, nylon, and silk fibers, based on a standard mass per length of 1 gram per 9,000 meters of yarnThe higher the number in front of the D, the heavier, thicker and stronger the materialIt has nothing to do with whatever waterproof coating the fabric may or may not haveSabre 6 and Sabre 12 appears to be a proprietary designation by The North Face for some kind of polyester fabricThey don't even explain what it is on their websiteA backpack's fabric can be waterproof, but unless the seams are sealed, it's not waterrpoof, and even if the seams are sealed the zipper can still leak, so, the best one can hope for in backpacks is water-resistant.
