My guess is that 2 seater sofa is for really big people who are so wide that regular sofa won't fit.....
To seat less people and to fit in a small room, duh!

A 2 seater sofa is called a love seat.In olden days it was to be used by young sparkers to get (sit) closer together.
If space is an issue, a large 3 seater sofa wont fit but a smaller 2 seater will!
