Question:

What should we use to add weight to our 2007 Ford Ranger?

We have recently moved from Nova Scotia to Northern Manitoba and need to find a way to add weight to the back of our truck to make winter driving on the icy gravel roads safer. Snow is not an option as we have to drive an hour every week or two to buy our groceries for ourselves and a few other people, so we need the room it would take up. We're concerned about adding sand bags as well. Do they move around much? What do you use to stop them from moving around? Do you use 2x4's? Where would you place them for best use? What do you think about studding the tires? Is it just as good as weighing down the back, or should they be used together? How expensive are they? Thank you in advance!

Answer:

The design life of most ionization type smoke detectors is 5 years. For your life replace them then. Many may last several years more but it is past the design limits. To choose a new one use the same brand you now have if it is what you like. Different models have different features that may include a battery operated exit light. Go shopping. Try DAGS for them on line and read the Consumer Reports.
bull dog is straight forward, as the previous poster stated they are not the best choice. Personally I have code alarm in my vehicles as they seam to be a good quality unit. Design tech puts out good quality units as well. I would stay away from bulldog. As the old saying goes, You get what you pay for.
Where ever you put it. sometimes I forget where I put things, a bit of an attitude adjustment, and I can remember again!
