Question:

WHAT THE HELL IS SHEETROCK?

in england we use plasterboard and nail it to the joists then plaster over it for a smooth finish

Answer:

Sheetrock Uk
What in hell kind of boyfriend do you have who won't get his hands dirty? I think working with sheetrock is fun (yes, I am happiest when working). Any significant other who can't be bothered to help should be an ex-sigother in my book. You don't have to structure your life to suit him. He should be structuring his life to suit you.
Sheetrock..Plasterboard ...Gyp rock..gypsom..drywall..wallboard..Gibral... board or GIB wall . Just different names for the same thing. The basic stuff is anywhere form 1/4 to 5/8 thick. It's made with paper on 2 sides and has a bevel for plastering seams. Then you get green board and blueboard for the bathroom or high moisture areas and you get wonderboard or durock or hardiboard that's like a sheet of flattened concrete for showers. As a note Plaster goes by alot of names here too...Joint compound, Mud, spackle, drywall compound these are used interchangably too altho there are different grades and drying times to different types.
Gypsum. We don't use...plaster...anymore.
