Question:

What type of diesel engine?

Can anyone help me figure out where I can find a diesel motor that can be used in a motorcycle? Can I take the motor out of a diesel generator or should I buy a new/used one made specifically for a motorcycle?

Answer:

diesel motors are not exactly meant for huge changes in load and very high revs typical of a motorcycle a diesel generator? those run in a very very narrow powerband go for the one made for a motorcycle if their are any unless you have a really good reason just get a 4 stroke
peace65.freeserve .uk/Pictu Check it out. There are many different brands of engine shown. Edit: Don't know what's happened to all the photos that were on that site, but at least you can google the names and model numbers of the engines mentioned. The diesel genny idea probably wouldn't work, because that motor would be designed to run at a constant speed for hours on end, not continuously varying throttle openings as you would get in a road situation.
The military has some Kawasaki KLR 650's converted to diesel, try hunting for one of them at army surplus stores. You do realize that bio-diesel takes more energy to produce than gasoline right? That's why it has been abandoned as an alternative fuel. But by all means go ahead, a diesel bike would be cool!
