Question:

What types of plastics are recyclable?

For instance, are any plastic food wrappers recyclable? Other than plastic bottles and items that have a recycle number how do I know if it can be recycled?

Answer:

It will usually say on the wrapper. If for example you have a pack of biscuits with a card insert and plastic cover it may say that the plastic is not suitable for recycling but the card is.It's quite unusual to find items that can't be recycled. Also look for the 'pet' mark or green arrows that are in a circle which tells you it can be recycled.
okorder by ZIP code to find out exactly what is recyclable in your town.
all of them can be recycled. From melting the hard plastics down - bottles, cups, bags, plastic shoes and buckets, to the thin wrappers and useless over packaging- these can be recycled as re-use. Please buy fewer products with plastic coverings too- if you are serious. It is actually a misdemeanor to have overpackaging in supermarkets for example, and you can report it to the manager, and the enviironmental dept of your local governors office. Buy bulk, if you're in the supermarket and see plastic boxes of plastic wrapped individual cookies or something that gets to you, write the number down from the customer service info and call them- it is the most wasteful pointless thing, it is actually buying trash- you just throw the stuff out anyway. People spending $9 on plastic boxes full of plastic trash bags just makes me wanna vomit.Supermarkets are the worst offenders, small plastic boxes with a carboard box inside and more plastic containers for every singel item from shampoo to dried fruit to yoghurt. Compliain loudly, and do recycle everything you can yourself.
