Question:

what will be the maximum load on the pair of fixing bolts holding a hand wash basin.?

Would like to know the maximum weight of a wash basin that secured to the wall by 2 hanger bolts size 3/8' x 90mm long. The distance between the bolts is 18 apart. The weight of the basin is about 12 kgs.Over hang of basin is about 24. Penetration of bolt into the wall is about 1 3/4.Can anyone provide me with the calculation so that I can use the working in designing the wash basin for a certain project.Victor

Answer:

You have forgotten the other load that is common for a wash basin. That is the weight of the person who is leaning on it or otherwise applying additional load to the bolts. I have also seen some people put some pretty heavy objects in a washbasin, a 50 pound child is one good example. You need to think outside the basin. Or is it inside the basin?

For Victor Your Bolt 3/8& can carry over load double than wash basin it is basic calclulation and it is differance that for various material of basin like made from ceramics, metal or glass ? For ceramics glasses take double. For Metal take 2.5 Time (Then it will bend but not Break.)
