Question:

What would cause the windshield wiper to stop working on a 1997 ford expedition? The driver side works.?

The passenger side windshield stoppped working during a snow storm.

Answer:

the wiper arms have what is called a transmission connecting them together.each arm is connected to it wit a plastic socket.the right side could have popped off or broke.have to remove panel between windshield ond hood to gain access.
possibly windshield wiper linkage is disconnected or worn out ---there is a wiper motor ----and a linkage connects the right side to the left side and is connected to the motor----look inside the vent just under the wiper arms with the wipers turned on--see if you can see the linkage moving back and forth----some times a rivet has worn out and fallen out ---the linkage is just rivevted together---
are they on seperate moters or are the linked mechanically? if mechaically the the linkage hs come adrift or broken if the are motore dseperatly then the motor coould be shot also have a look to see if the arm is still attached to the spindle they can some times shear the serated drive teeth
