Question:

whats a good exhaust system to get?

i‘m getting an exhaust system for my husband for Christmas, it‘s what hes been wanting. he has a Mazda 6i 2007. he wants big pipes and for it to be loud (go figure). problem is i have no clue what to look for. i need to know what the exhaust system is made up of, good brands, and what parts i need to get. please let me know if you know anything, thanks!

Answer:

First of all you didnt mention what kind of car you have. This is very important because some vehicles will not show much, if any improvement by adding a cold air intake. Also,if its a vehicle that will respond well to a cold air intake, then chances are that putting headers and a performance exhaust will also give you more power. As far as the noise level of the exhaust you can choose how loud you want it to be.But you may also have to do something with the pcm so that it can manage the fuel requirements that will change as a result of your modifications.

RE: what's a good exhaust system to get? i'm getting an exhaust system for my husband for Christmas, it's what hes been wanting. he has a Mazda 6i 2007. he wants big pipes and for it to be loud (go figure). problem is i have no clue what to look for. i need to know what the exhaust system is made up of, good brands, and what parts.
This is really a tough question to answer if you don't know much about the breed of the car in question. It really relies on what his goal is for the car. For example, turbo or not, the exhaust is different for that setup. Is he trying to pull more torque from the engine, horsepower? Just the Sound? I can tell you brands of exhaust like Borla or Flowmaster, all companies make cat-back designed systems for just about every car but they all cost. My advice, is to log onto a forum website and see what most people run on those cars or recommend. You could always just ask your husband too! lol Exhaust systems are expensive so making the right choice is pretty crucial. If he's really just looking for sound and isn't too autosavy, you could take him right down to a pep boys and have them jimmy up a generic that'll make it loud too like a turbo muffler or glasspack! lol Really an open ended question! lol I've been a chick working on cars now for 10 years, hope I helped somewhat )
