Question:

Whats different Cold Air Intake ?

i bought a cold air intake for my car (AEM cold air intake ) but when i was surfing the web i saw some other ones that cost waaaayyyyy less then the one i got. Whats the difference between the really expensive ones and the really cheap ones. They look the same too me.

Answer:

I'm a mechanical engineer for an architectural company. I design HVAC and plumbing systems. We never design supply water with PVC pipes. Supply lines generally have a higher pressure than drainage lines. Steel lines are common too until you get past about 2 diameter. Then we go to copper. There is nothing wrong with copper. It doesn't rust and it is not quick to break down.
AEM and Injen are the best Cold Air Intakes. Best Quality, longest warranties, highest power gains. That is why they cost more than KN, HKS, Fujita, and other Intakes.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHALOL!!!!! Im laughing my **** off on what the clown above said about CAI. He said it gains HP brings in cold air in. Um, hate to be the bad guy here but any moron that tells you CAI are better than stock is smoking crack. The CAI does not bring in cold air from the outside since most of them are cheaply designed have large gaps at the air inlet allows the HOT engine air temp in to the duct The factory setup is the BEST system CAI you can possibly own. There is no restriction on those compared to the CAI. There is no HP gain either from any of that crap
Copper pipes. Over time the PVC would wear down, and would you want to be drinking that?
AEM piping and filter(KN) is better then the other cheap brands. the metal on the AEM pipes restrict heat, therefore the air sucking in stays COLD the whole time.(like a heat shield) cold air means better mpg and faster speed
