Question:

Whats the best clothing fabric material for heat insulation?

Winter is here and it‘s DMN cold. And with my inquisitive nature, I like to do research. So, why not start here? I‘m aware that Yahoo! Answers can give dubious answers, but it‘s still a start and I‘d like to believe there are a few insightful and honest people here. I‘m ignorant in the field of textiles and fabric, so I need enlightenment. I only know of cotton, wool, polyester, acrylic, and silk. Which one is the best heat insulator? Which type of fabric will keep me warm assuming I only choose one kind (just to keep it simple). I hear that wool is better than cotton, but then how does it compare with the other fabric? So tell me!

Answer:

Polyester and wool fabric moves moisture away from the skin, in this way it will keep you drier and warmer. A single layer of clothing won't help no matter what kind of fabric you will use. For outer layer you need a waterproof and windproof fabric which makes Goretex ideal to use, for the next layer insulation is important which makes the Polyester fabric the best choice.
